The whale watching season, which runs from June to September, is the perfect time to witness the majestic humpback whales in their natural habitat.

During this season, the Palm Island/Orpheus Island area becomes a popular resting spot for mothers and calves, providing an ideal location for guided whale watching tours. This area is renowned for young juveniles showcasing their newfound skills, such as breaching and jumping, in the calm waters surrounding the Islands.

North Queensland Island Charters'' whale watching cruises offer a 4-5 hour tour around the Islands, giving you ample opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures up close. The tours include stops to spend time with each whale sighted, as well as a visit to Yanks Jetty, located on Orpheus Island. This jetty is fully equipped with picnic tables, a swimming platform, and beautiful coral gardens teeming with tropical fish, perfect for a quick snorkel.

The region is also popular for spotting manta rays and, in a rare occurrence, two fur seals were even sighted in 2020. These experiences make for unforgettable whale watching adventures.
