Region X offers an awe-inspiring hiking experience in the Wollongong & South Coast region of NSW, taking you to the magnificent Pigeon House Mountain, also known as Didthol by the Aboriginal people, meaning Big Mountain. This significant cultural area was named by Captain Cook in 1770 for its distinctive shape, and the views from the summit are truly breathtaking.

Your journey begins with a comfortable air-conditioned ride from Batemans Bay or Ulladulla, where you''ll witness the southern end of the Sydney Sandstone Basin through spotted gum forest. After an hour''s drive, you''ll reach the starting location of the hike, where the first section is a steep ascent. However, the first rest stop atop a granite outcrop will reward you with stunning views to the south, giving you a chance to catch your breath and learn about the unique geology of the area.

The trail continues through tea tree and xanthoria, with pockets of dry and wet temperate forest surrounding you. As you gently ascend, you''ll encounter a series of steel ladders and platforms constructed by National Parks and Wildlife Service, guiding you to the summit with expansive views of the Buddawang Wilderness and the ocean.

At the summit, you can spend as much time as you like, taking in the stunning views before making your way down the trail. A delicious lunch will be prepared midway for you to savour the experience. Afterward, you can take a refreshing dip or soak your feet in a local beach or the pristine upper Clyde River, celebrating your hike with a natural foot soak, cold drink, and afternoon snacks.

Region X''s commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism practices has made them a valuable partner for We Wander, offering a one-of-a-kind hiking experience that is both challenging and rewarding. This tour requires a minimum of 4 participants to run, and although it is a short hike, it is considered challenging. Participants with heart, lung, ankle, or knee concerns should contact Region X to discuss their ability levels.

To embark on this unforgettable hiking experience, make sure to bring sturdy walking shoes, a hat, comfortable clothing, drinking water, sunscreen, a light top or splash jacket, and a small day pack. The tour includes experienced guides, comfortable transport, morning tea, a guided hike, lunch, and return transport to Batemans Bay. Optional extras include hotel pickups from Canberra.

Overall, Region X''s Pigeon House Mountain hiking experience is a must-do for anyone seeking to connect with nature and explore the hidden gems of the Wollongong & South Coast region of NSW.
